Workshop: Get the global perspective from peer reviewers and industry experts: A live Q&A chat

Michael Willis 

Researcher Advocate, Wiley 

With a background in Classics (ancient history and literature), Michael Willis started his publishing career with CatchWord, publishing online journals for scholarly publishers. He joined Blackwell Publishing in 2005 managing journal editorial offices in health sciences. His remit expanded in 2014 to oversee all of Wiley’s in-house editorial offices in the EMEA region, managing the development and implementation of peer review best practice across all disciplines and peer review models. Since 2019, he has been Researcher Advocate, exploring how publishers can best meet the needs and aspirations of researchers as editors, reviewers, and authors in the submission and peer review process. Michael was President of the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors in 2016-2017.

Mriganka Awati

Senior Writer, Cactus Communications 

Mriganka has worked in the field of scholarly communications for over 16 years. Her experience spans scientific editing, training/mentoring, managing researcher-education events, and planning/implementing strategies for creating educational and thought-leadership content for researchers. She is the lead author of three Editage books on academic writing published for researchers based in Japan and China. She was also part of two global survey projects conducted by CACTUS—one focusing on researcher perspectives on academic publishing and the other focusing on mental health in academia.

Jia has been working in the publication development of academic journals for many years. She has rich experience in academic exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad. Currently, she is working at the Taylor & Francis Publishing Group, where she is responsible for peer review cooperation projects. Jia is committed to improving journal review efficiency and enhancing the fairness and transparency of journal peer review. Before working in publishing, she studied for a Ph.D. and worked as a research assistant at Tsinghua University and Georgia Institute of Technology. She has published more than 10 SCI papers with over 600 citations. 

Dr. Wajida Perveen - Associate Professor & Head of Physical Therapy Department at School of Allied Health Sciences, CMH Lahore Medical College & Institute of Dentistry; Member, Peer Review Week 2022 Steering Committee   

Dr. Wajida Perveen is a Physical Therapist from Pakistan with diverse experiences as an academician, clinician, and researcher. She has served in the public and private sectors, at academic institutions, and private healthcare providers. She has a range of professional experience in Musculoskeletal and Paediatrics Rehabilitation. Her professional education includes a Bachelors in Physiotherapy from King Edward Medical College, t-DPT and MS-OMPT. Currently she is a PhD scholar at University of Lahore, Pakistan. She is an eminent scholar and reviewer in many national and international peer reviewed journals. She has several reputable publications in national and international journals and conferences. She is a member of the International Society of Physiotherapy Journal Editors (ISPJE), PT Educators Network, Pain Network, and Network for Health Promotion in Life and Work (HPLW). She is also a member of the Environmental Physical Therapy Association (Norway), International Association for the study of Pain (IASP), a Steering Committee member for Peer Review Week 2021 & 2022, and an executive committee member at Physiotherapy Research Society UK. She has several ongoing collaborative research projects (Education) with her peers in Germany, India and Malawi. Currently, she is serving as Associate Professor and Head of the Physical Therapy Department at the School of Allied Health Sciences, CMH Lahore Medical College & Institute of Dentistry (NUMS Rawalpindi), Lahore Punjab, Pakistan.
