Dahlia has a background in Language, Linguistics and Computer Science, and is currently pursuing her doctorate at the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, McGill University. She is driven by her love for reading, passion for teaching and learning, and a desire to see all children (students) achieve their full potential. This drive has taken her on a journey that has included teaching English to children who spoke other languages (French, Japanese, Polish) and being part of a research team investigating bilingual education and the importance of children’s home language in their learning. Her research focuses on emergent literacy skills, shared storybook reading, differences in reading achievement, and the role of preschool self-regulation (executive function) skills in literacy outcomes. She also has a keen interest in cross-cultural awareness and competence in health sciences. When her nose is not buried deep in a book, she can be found playing a mean game of Scrabble or enjoying time in nature. She also engages in community outreach, using mentoring opportunities to teach, engage, and motivate.
