Q: Why is another editor reviewing my revised manuscript?

Detailed Question -

I have submitted my major revision before the time specified by the journal. I am waiting for the response. When I requested the journal to accelerate my review process, I received the following response: "Unfortunately, the manuscript still needs to be assessed by another editor. I will contact you with the final decision once received." What does it mean? Is there any problem with the manuscript or is this some general internal process followed by the journal?

Answer:

Generally, manuscripts that receive major revisions are sent for another round of review once the revised version is submitted. This is done to assess whether the revisions were made in a satisfactory manner.  In fact, in your case, perhaps the paper is being reviewed internally by another editor to assess whether an external review is required. Possibly, after the editor sees it, he/she might decide to send it for another round of review if required. This is the normal procedure, so you have nothing to worry about.

Good luck!

Answer: Thank you for your response. Actually, before submitting my major revision, it was the different editor than now. Means the editor has changed after submitting my major revision as I saw in the tracking system. I am waiting a long still I did not get any response from the journal. Even though this is a rapid Journal. That is why I am worrying that everything is normal. Why they are taking a long time, even the comments was not that typical for me. I found only one reviewer comments as a major revision. So now what should I do?
Answer:
Since a different editor is now handling your manuscript, it is possible that he/she is going through the manuscript as well as the reviews to evaluate it. Naturally, since he/she is not familiar with our paper, this is taking longer for him/her. However, the processes for a rapid publication journal should ideally be faster than normal journals. I think you should write to the journal again. Say that you are worried because you haven't yet received a response from them and you are wondering if by chance the mail did not reach you due to some technical problem. Keep following up every week until you receive a response.
