Q: Where can I publish a 7000 word perspective piece?

Detailed Question -

I am sitting on a perspective piece that is collecting dust. It's a piece that rests between higher education and education technology. I really don't know who to send it to. Most high impact journals want robust research only. It's also very long, like over 10000 words. I have a version that I've cut down to 7000 or so.

Answer: Oof. I should mention it's a perspective piece, not original research.
Answer:

Very few journals would want to publish a perspective article that is so long. I think what you should do is first shortlist both education and education technology journals that publish perspective papers. Once you have shortlisted a few, check the word count they have mentioned for this article type. If the word limit is not specified, go to some of their previous issues and check the length of the perspective articles they have published. This will give you an idea of how long your article should be.

Once you get this clear in your head, you have two options:

1. You can shorten your article to the desired length

2. You can think of developing this into an original research article or a review article, depending on what the focus of the perspective piece is.

Once you have done this, it will be easier for you to figure out which journals you can submit it to. To avoid delays, send pre-submission inquires to a few journals and submit to the one which shows maximum interest in your article.
