Q: What does the status 'Forthcoming' mean?
The editor asked me for an essay for an academic anthology. I wrote it and sent it to them. The status is now 'Forthcoming.'
The status ‘Forthcoming’ is similar to the status ‘In Press.’ (It might be this journal’s variation of the status.) It means that the essay has been accepted and is now awaiting publication pending a few internal checks. As the editor had solicited the essay from you, they will indeed be publishing it – in case you were concerned this meant otherwise. You may also refer to this previous query by another user: What does the status 'in press' mean?
Based on the process followed by the journal, they might send you the final version for a check, or they may not, choosing to handle all tasks hereon on their own. If needed, you may check with the editor about this.
So, congrats, or at least, ‘pre-congrats’ for the article!
