Q: What does a status change from 'with editor' to 'under editor evaluation' mean?
I submitted my paper to a journal on the 10th of November. It got rejected in 4 days so I wrote a query and my paper was back to "with editor" status again. The editor replied to my email explaining that the rejection was the result of an error. From the 18th of December, the status is "under editor evaluation." What does that mean?
A change of status from "with editor" to "under editor evaluation" probably means that your paper is now going through the initial editorial check. Soon after submission, the paper is assigned to a handling editor who conducts an initial screening to see if the paper meets the basic requirements of the journal in terms of subject matter, scope, scientific value, etc. If the paper clears the initial screening, it is sent for peer review; else, it is desk rejected.
