Dr. Sarah E. Daly is an Assistant Professor of Criminology, Law, and Society at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. Prior to joining the faculty at the college, she taught Spanish in Camden County, New Jersey for nine years before assuming the role of School Counselor in the same district.
Throughout her professional career, she continued to enroll in graduate programs to learn more about those issues and find best practices to help her students and the district. Her current research at St. Vincent College focuses on everyday school violence such as bullying and fights to identify ways to better prepare teachers and school staff. Additionally, she studies mass shootings and large-scale violence using a developmental, psychological perspective. She also studies issues of gender-specific hate in online communities.
Dr. Daly has multiple articles ready for publication about the frequency of and motivation behind active and mass shootings, and she is the editor and contributing author of Assessing and Averting Mass Violence, a collection of essays and research about active and mass shootings. She is also the sole author of Everyday School Violence: An Educator’s Guide to Safer Schools. The text offers a theoretical framework for understanding adolescent violence and practical ways for teachers and administrators to prevent and address teenage aggression in schools. She hopes that her experience in schools and the research that she conducts will help to inform school policy to prepare for, prevent, and reduce small- and large-scale school violence.
At Saint Vincent College, she teaches courses on school violence, mass violence, research methodology, and issues of gender and race in the criminal justice system. She lives in southwestern Pennsylvania with her pug, Piggy, and her cat, Snoop. In the limited free time that she has between grading, prepping classes, and conducting research, she enjoys Wawa, Game of Thrones and The Office, exploring new restaurants and neighborhoods, and traveling.
