Dr Nelson M Oyesiku is currently the Editor-in-Chief. He is Professor of Neurological Surgery and Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology) at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and also Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Neurosurgery and Biotechnology. Dr Oyesiku specializes in pituitary tumours, brain tumours, and stereotactic radiosurgery. The journal has a publications committee, a 64-strong editorial advisory board, a separate international advisory board with members from more than fifty countries, and a very large editorial review board comprising separate teams for separate subspecialties such as cerebrovascular surgery, endovascular surgery, evidence-based medicine, neuroscience, neuropathology, and biostatistics. CRITERIA FOR PUBLICATION
The journal considers scientific papers dealing with clinical or experimental neurosurgery, solicited manuscripts on specific subjects from experts, and other information of interest to neurosurgeons. The categories under which contributions are published include the following.

- Operative neurosurgery (a quarterly
- supplement focused exclusively on the
- operating room and aimed at enhancing skills)
- Technical case reports
- 3-D Video (short PowerPoint presentation of a case, with a voice over, followed by a narrated 3-D surgical video to illustrate the most important technical aspects of the case)

The journal follows the AMA Manual of Style (10th edn). Authors may submit supplemental material (documents, graphics, tables, and videos) for online-only posting. The print version links the supplemental data through a QR code to facilitate access to that content by means of a mobile telephone. Neurosurgery provides podcasts (abstracts of scientific papers published in the journal and read out by native speakers) not only in English but also in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean and in French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
