Q: Is it copyright infringement to use software to create figures for my paper?

Detailed Question -

I created the figures for my papers with using “Poser” which is a software to make a figure of a pose of man. In this case, do I infringe the copyright of the creator of the software?

1 Answer to this question
Answer:

I’m not familiar with this software, but whenever you are using any tool to create something, the end product that you are creating is your own. The creators of the software will not have a copyright on the image/design/visuals that you have created using the tool because they are your own work.

You will only need to cite the tool or software that you have used in your Methods section just as you would do for, say, any statistical software that you use for your statistical analysis.

Having said that, I would still suggest that you carefully read through the website’s copyright policy before reaching a decision on this.
