Q: How should I write the background of the study for my topic?
I am carrying out a research on the effects of modern technology in the teaching of social studies
The background has to talk about the ‘why’ of the study, that is, why you are conducting the study. So, you have to talk about the significance of the study and its relevance to the target population. You also need to talk about how you arrived at the research question. This typically comes from doing a thorough review of the current literature in the field, which often reveals gaps for further exploration and study. (However, the literature review is different from the background.) Finally, you need to talk about your research question and hypothesis.
I cannot get into further details for your study as it is subject-specific. However, we have several resources on how to write an effective background for a study. You may refer to these for more information.
