Q: How much time will a major revision take?

Detailed Question -

Hello everybody. As you can guess from the topic question, i had submitted my manuscript and i got major revisions from one reviewer (only one is assigned). He/She wanted to provide more details in some parts of my manuscript. I done the revisions and i submitted last week. Now, the manuscript is 'Under Review'. My question is how long the revision will take? Because only one reviewer is assigned, maybe the revision time is shorter than having two or more reviewers, right? Thank you a lot!!!

Answer:

First of all, I would like to congratulate you that you received a "major revision" decision. This proves that the reviewers and the Editor has seen value in your manuscript, and hence have given you a chance to improve it.

Secondly, a "major revision" decision means that the manuscript will have to go through the usual rounds of peer review with the  only exception being that this time the Editor wont have to search for a reviewer again. Thus it depends on the availability of the reviewer who is usually very busy with his prior commitments. Usually reviewers are given 3 months to review a manuscript which has been rendered a "major revision" decision. Since the status shows "Under  Review", it means that your manuscript is with the reviewer. So keep your fingers crossed and hopefully you will hear from the journal soon.
