Q: How can I score or grade a closed-ended yes/no questionnaire?
I intend to do a survey on the frequency [extent] and severity of text neck syndrome (TNS) among fine arts students. I plan on using a TNS questionnaire developed through a study. The problem is that it consists of 25 questions answered as yes or no, but there is no indication of how it will [should] be scored. What should be the minimum and maximum score basis for reporting the presence of the condition?
TNS is a relevant topic as it’s proving to be a prevalent problem among mobile phone users, especially youth/students.
Anyway, here are some suggestions for scoring your questionnaire. You could assign values to the yes and no answers. (You could even assign different weights to each question depending on the importance of that question.) Then, you could calculate the total value. Alternatively, you could split up the questions into different categories and calculate the total value of each such category. You’ll need to independently decide on what scores you would like to use, as well as the minimum and maximum.
