Q: Does a short review time for a manuscript indicate rejection?
I submitted my manuscript to an Elsevier journal, and it remained "With editor" for 10 days. Then the status changed to "Reviewer invited" for 3 days and after that to "Under review" for 5 days. It then changed to "Ready for decision." Does such a short review time indicate rejection?
Typically, the duration for which the status shows "Under review" may vary from 10 days to several months. Five days is definitely short for a review to be completed. Since it is an Elsevier journal, it is likely to be reputable that carries out a thorough peer review and therefore it is unlikely to be a cause for concern. Perhaps the journal has a short review time. You may be able to find this information on the journal website. In any case, there is no direct relation between the time taken by the reviewers to respond and the final decision. Just keep your fingers crossed and wait for the decision. Good luck!
