Dr. Catherine Oliver is a postdoctoral researcher, currently working on the ERC-funded project Urban Ecologies at the Department of Geography, University of Cambridge (2020-2023). This project aims to rethink urban space from beyond-human perspectives, by undertaking multispecies ethnographies with urban chickens in London. She completed her PhD on veganism in Britain and beyond-human geographies at the University of Birmingham in 2020. Her PhD used archival methods (through a PhD placement at the British Library) with activist interviews and multispecies ethnographies with chickens.
Her recent published work in more-than-human geographies explores failure and ethics in geographical research with animals (2020, Emotion, Space and Society). Other published work in feminist geographies explores ‘dis-belonging’ and the reproduction of neoliberal hierarchies at academic conferences (2019, Gender, Place and Culture).
