Miriam Leah Gamliel

Director of ATARA— the Association for Torah & the Arts

Bio

Miriam is the director of an international network of Jewish performing artists (ATARA). She holds two master’s degrees: one in Jewish history and another in library science. She is also trained in the performing arts.

Raised as a secular Jew, Miriam adopted religious law later in life, and in 2007 began to address the gaps she found in the religious community regarding creative expression by providing networking opportunities and a platform to showcase their creativity for female, religious artists. Her PhD dissertation focuses on the cognitive and emotional traits of creators, looking specifically at the spiritual disposition of artists, and the experience creative students have in Orthodox schooling.

Her short-term goal is the publication of her research, mid-term goals are continued research and work in academia, and long-term goals the creation of a program for the gifted in the Orthodox community, writing, producing and performing thought-provoking theater in the Orthodox community.
