Editage announces its participation in Peer Review Week 2017
(May 10, 2017; Philadelphia, PA, USA) The dates for this year’s Peer Review Week have been announced. Peer Review Week 2017 will be held between September 11 and 17 this year. Each year publishers, academic societies, and open science advocators participate in this event to raise awareness about best practices and advances in the peer review process. This year, 29 organizations, including Editage, will be participating in the global event. By being the only English language-editing service provider among the 29 participating organizations, Editage has reaffirmed its commitment to uphold, support, and propagate best publication processes.
The primary function of Peer Review Week is to emphasize the central role that peer review plays in scholarly communication. The event is also serves as a platform to discuss different aspects of peer review, such as emerging trends, alternative peer review models, efficiencies in the peer review system to make the journal publication workflow smoother, and ethical issues surrounding peer review. Recent retractions owing to peer review manipulation have reemphasized the need for a robust peer review system and this is where event like Peer Review Week steps in, by enabling a channelized discussion and resolution of relevant and urgent issues.
Editage Insights, the author education arm of Editage, was heavily involved in Peer Review Week 2016. The theme last year was ‘Recognition for Review’. In addition to collating notes of appreciation from authors to peer reviewers, Editage Insights hosted webinars for peer reviewers and shared multiple resources about the peer review process with authors. Due to these efforts, Editage was identified among the top influencers of Peer Review Week 2016. Editage Insights has been actively working to bridge the gap between journals and authors. Their ongoing author survey aims to capture authors’ views about the academic publishing process. The survey has received good response from authors thus far and preliminary results are already being shared with important industry leaders. Editage Insights promotes best publishing practices by offering learning courses on various aspects of academic publishing, such as ethical publication practices, peer review, open access, journal selection, and research discoverability enhancement. The most recent online author education course launched by Editage Insights teaches authors how to avoid retractions and publish ethically.
The theme for Peer Review Week 2017 is ‘Transparency’ and Editage Insights has many outreach activities planned for September. Please visit www.editage.com/insights to know more.
