CACTUS/Editage will be attending the annual conference of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders in Exeter, UK
The Society for Editors and Proofreaders will be having their 24th annual conference from August 31 to September 2, at the University of Exeter's Streatham Campus. In attendance from CACTUS will be Charlotte Baptista, Manager, Skill & Knowledge.
The conference round up includes a number of interesting workshops and sessions aimed at empowering editing professionals. There are workshops for experienced editors as well as those wanting to break into the industry. Key highlights are Joy Burrough-Boenisch's session on Editing Non-Native English, Charlie Wilson's on How to Succeed as a Freelancer, and John Bowdler's on Finance for Freelancers. For the more seasoned crowd, there's Julia Sandford-Cooke's session on Social Media for Editors, and Anna Sharman & Nancy Duin's session, called From Doing to Advising: Moving Into Editorial Consultancy.
The Whitcombe Lecture is much anticipated and will be delivered by Carol Fisher Saller, author of the book, The Subversive Copy Editor. The lecture is titled Finding Our Way: Writing and Editing in the New Publishing Landscape.
